Virginia Commonwealth University is the state's largest college. The school enrolls over 32,000 students. There are two campuses: Monroe Park, located in the historic Fan district, and the MCV (Medical College of Virginia) campus in the heart of downtown Richmond. VCU is one of the top fine-arts schools in the country, and is also well known for its medical and engineering programs. The fashion design program is also very popular, and growing fast.

As both the capital of the Confederate Army and a seat of the Civil Rights movement, Richmond boasts more historical sites than any other city in Virginia.
